Genetictestonboarding
Genetic test onboarding
The onboarding is a part of the customer journey in which the customer receives a home DNA test kit, registers on the digital platform, returns the sample. Our goal was to create a seamless onboarding experience, where users log in or register, input necessary data, and get sample collection instructions.
My responsibility on the project was the direction of user experience and UI design. Working with the product manager, stakeholders, and designers. Coordinating, mentoring, delegating tasks, and reviewing designers’ work and their contributions to the project. Also responsible for hands-on delivering wireframes, prototypes creating visual assets, and finalizing the design for handoff.

The problem
The company used printed instructions with the genetic test kit to onboard the customers. Users were instructed to visit a specific link to register as new customers and activate their tests. The operations department detected that a concerning number of mostly B2B2C customers don’t activate their tests but just take the sample and return it.
Design onboarding flow
Assembling a current customer journey map assisted us to establish the pains and opportunities for the improvements.

Designing the solution
Designing the onboarding we strived to keep the users focused on the instructions and keep distractions to a minimum. Instructing users to scan the QR code helped us eliminate the chance of human error and mandatory to start the onboarding where all further instructions are provided.
User test with an interview
We tested and observed how do test users approach the sample collection kit and the onboarding process for the first time. This way we validated the concept and iterated on it.
